Interoperability FAQs

Use of Transponder
How do I choose a transponder in the framework of Interoperability?

In order to use the Interoperability Service, you must choose the transponder that best meets your needs, based on where you live, the road network you use most often as well as any discounts that may be of interest to you as well as any other parameters you may wish to take into account.

With your transponder, you can make use of Interoperability and go through electronic toll lanes of all cooperating road networks.

I have a motorcycle Smart Card can I use it at the participating motorways?

The eway smart cards can be used solely at the toll stations of Aegean Motorway SA and not at the Interoperability Network, since ONLY eway transponders and not smart cards/SID can be used to go through electronic toll stations of participating road networks.

Note: The same applies for cards issued to motorcycles and trucks by the other participating networks.

Can I use the eway transponder at my truck for the whole road network?

You may use the eway transponder at all cooperating road networks of Interoperability, on Aegean Motorway, Attiki Odos, Olympia Odos, Moreas and the Rion - Antirrion Bridge.

Please pay particular attention to the signage of each toll station in order to go through the electronic toll lanes that allow such passages, as some toll stations have designated toll lanes for trucks, or lanes with height limiters, whilst some stations allow the passage of all vehicles from the same electronic toll lanes (as Aegean Motorway does).

For your convenience, please consult the table below for which vehicles may go through which lanes at the participating road networks:

Please note: If you use a road that does not allow trucks though electronic, you can use your eway transponder at manual lanes.

I am a subscriber to the eway LOCAL, is my discount available at the participating road networks?

Each road network applies its own commercial policy and any discount packages apply solely to the road network that provides them and only if the respective transponder is used.

Discounts offered as part of eway discount programs apply solely to electronic transactions within Aegean Motorway, according to the terms and conditions of each discount program.

Please note: In case you are a subscriber of another electronic toll collection program offered by the participating motorways, please use the respective transponder to enjoy discounts.

How are electronic transactions charged?

Your transactions is charged automatically by the electronic toll collection system of each participating road network and depends on the category of the vehicle, (as this is determined by each road network), based on the height and the number of axles of the vehicle including the trailer (if any). All transactions are recorded in the itemized statement.

Please note:

In case of variable vehicle height (i.e. cargo carriers etc.):

  • Use a manual toll lane to pay the corresponding toll fee and avoid any possible misclassification of your vehicle.
  • If you use an electronic toll lane without height limiter, you will be charged toll fees corresponding to a higher vehicle category, as it is automatically recorded by the electronic system.
  • You cannot use an electronic toll lane with height limiter (height restrictions apply).

For more information regarding toll charges, please refer to the websites of the participating road networks.

Can I use my eway transponder to go through manual toll lanes of other motorways?

With Interoperability, in addition to the electronic lanes, you can use your eway transponder at the manual toll lanes of all participating road networks, giving your transponder to the toll collector in order for the corresponding toll fee to be charged.

In case the height of your vehicle is 2,20 m. (cat. 3 & 4 at Aegean Motorway), please be aware that certain road sections apply different height restrictions at the electronic toll lanes and therefore, you must use a manual toll lane.

Please note that you can only add credit to your eway account solely at a manual toll lane of Aegean Motorway.

Can I get information on my eway account balance from the boards of the electronic toll lanes at participating motorways?

You can get information on the status of your eway account from the information screens participating motorways (installed below the electronic lane indicator) but you cannot see your account balance.

For information on your account balance, please contact eway Customer Service on 2410 741440.

When I was going through toll stations of Aegean Motorway SA using the eway transponder, the electronic board showed ''Νο - OBU'', what does it mean?

The No-OBU (No On Board Unit) means that there is no transponder (OBU) in operation installed at your vehicle or that no transponder has been recognized by the system.

In this case, either your eway transponder has not been installed according to the installation instructions, or the instructions of the provided by the Service have not been (i.e. reduced speed when entering the lane).

Initially, please check again the Instructions for the Installation of a Transponder to ensure that your eway transponder has not been installed incorrectly at your vehicle.

If you encounter this problem again despite the fact that you have followed the installation instructions and the recommendations for approaching the lane correctly, please visit any of the Customer Service Points (CSP) of the company so that the transponder is replaced if necessary.

Charges / Invoices / Documentation for Transpactions
How are transactions charged using the eway transponder for the Interoperability Service?

When making use of the Interoperability service, your electronic transaction using the eway transponder is charged automatically and electronically, i.e in exactly the same manner as when using the eway transponder to go through the electric toll lanes of Aegean Motorway SA.

The category of your vehicle at all participating road networks is determined based on the height of your vehicle and the number of its axles. However, please note that each road section may apply different charges for each vehicle category and that the categorization of your vehicle and the respective toll fee charged are determined by the specific road network you are travelling on.

In case I carry bicycles (or any other load that changes the height of my vehicle e.g. cargo carrier) how will i be charged?

The categorization of your vehicles and the respective charge is done automatically by the electronic toll lanes according to the category of your vehicle as this is determined by the road network you are travelling on, the basis of the height and number of axles of your vehicle, and your trailer (if any).

For this reason, in case of changes in the height of your vehicle (i.e. carrying a load on the car rack), please use a manual lane in order to be charged the appropriate fee corresponding to the actual category of your vehicle and avoid any possible problems in your transaction.
